Our Manufacturing Cells and the

work we do

We use a framework of manufacturing cells to enable us to focus key production skills where they are needed most for particular jobs. Each cell is an autonomous manufacturing unit capable of undertaking a range of related operations. By combining the skills of several cells, we can offer a comprehensive manufacturing resource producing high quality components and assemblies to specific delivery schedules.

Denholms have been manufacturing pump shafts for over 30 years, supplying a number of blue chip companies including Clyde Union Pumps & Sulzer Pumps.

Shafts are made from a variety of materials including Monel K500, Inconel 625, FV520B, Hastelloy, 316 Stainless Steel, 304 Stainless Steel, 709M40T (EN19T) & 080M40 (EN8).

The cell can manufacture pump shafts up to 8″ dia (203mm) x 4000mm and has a handling capacity of 1.5 tonne.

CNC machining for a wide range of components

Comprising eight CNC turning machines, one vertical machining centre, four lapping machines and one centreless grinding machine.

We have:

  • Puma 8 CNC Lathe with bar feed
  • Puma 280M CNC Lathe with Live tooling
  • Puma 2600 LY CNC Lathe

CNC machining for large components

CNC Turning up to a maximum diameter 900mm x 3200 between centres and CNC milling with a maximum machining area 5000mm x 2000mm x 1500mm

We have:

  • Sacem MSMG-125 CNC Horizontal Boring Mill with Heidenhain TNC 430. 6-axis CNC with full 360 degree B axis.
    UT 5-400 D’ANDREA U-TRONIC and UT 5-630 D’ANDREA U-TRONIC facing heads. Bespoke and universal angled heads.
  • Mills CNC Puma 3100XLY. Turning capacity 300 x 2125 with Y-axis and Driven Tools
  • Doosan Puma 700LM CNC Lathe. Turning capacity 900 x 3200 between centres with travelling steady and live tooling. Equipped with Fanuc 32iT control system with Manual Guide ‘i’.
  • Doosan Puma 700LY CNC Lathe.
  • Daewoo Puma 12L CNC Lathe. Turning capacity 350 x 1050.
  • BSA Viper CNC Lathe. Turning capacity 300 x 3000 with travelling steady and live tooling
  • DNM 750L Vertical Machining Centre

Fabrication Cell offers general fabrication services including shearing (up to 6mm x 3meters), CNC bending (up to 3 meters x 150 tonne) and coded welding ASME IX in mild steel and stainless steel.

CNC Turning
Denholm Rees and O’Donnell has ten Daewoo CNC lathes machining up to 900mm diameter and 3200mm in length. Three of the machines have 3rd Axis powered tooling.

For the manufacture of shafts and spindles up to 3000mm long and 300mm diameter, we have a BSA Viper CNC lathe with a travelling steady and 3rd Axis powered tooling.

In total we have has fourteen CNC lathes.

We operate under strict Quality Management Systems, in accordance with and approved by AOQC Moody International to ISO 9001 (2000 revision). Staff within the fabrications department have also been trained to both BS 4870 and ASME IX. We have one of the UK’s largest Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) providing us with reassurance that everything that leaves our premises is perfect.
