Ongoing Investment at Albany Road Home > Ongoing Investment at Albany Road

Developments at the Denholms Rees & O’Donnell site in Aintree continue apace with the recent investment in 3 machines newly installed at our Aintree site in Liverpool:

KAFO HMC 630

All good things come to an end and we were finding that our time-served Mazak H630 was reaching the end of its time with us. At over 30 years old, the Mazak was a great piece of kit but showing it’s age with increasing maintenance requirements to keep it operating to our required standards.

As a result, we have replaced the Mazak with a KAFO HMC-630 Horizontal Machining Centre.

KAFO HMC-630

The machine has twin pallets each capable of carrying up to 1200KG. Since pallet switch time is as little as 15 seconds and with auto tool changing from 3 seconds, the flexibility and capabilities are significant.

The key specification includes:

  • Twin Pallet – 15 secs pallet change
  • 3-axis Travel – 1050mm x 800mm x 880mm
  • Table base – 630mm x 630mm
  • Max Workpiece – 1050mm x 1000mm
  • Auto tool changer – from 3 secs (tool to tool)

The KAFO HMC-630 is a valuable addition to our capabilities

Samsung PL60MC CNC Lathe/Turning Centre

With pump shafts production and other challenging machining being key services at Denholms/C E Edwards, we are always looking for potential to enhance and expand our capabilities.

The Samsung PL60MC recently installed at our Aintree site brings new opportunities.

Samsung PL60MC

Auto-steadies on the machine allow greater control over smaller diameter workpieces giving even greater machining precision.

Key spccifications:

  • X-Axis – 470mm
  • Z-Axis – 3270mm
  • C-Axis – 0.001°
  • Fanuc Oi-TD Control
  • Max turning ø 900 mm
  • Max machining length 3200 mm
  • Bar working ø 139 mm

The PL60MC broadens our already impressive shaft machining capabilities even further.

Doosan DNM6700

An important factor in our business is ensuring we have the correct balance between the work we are doing, operator experience & skill and machining capability. One option can be to use the flexibility of a larger machine to take on smaller work. However, the tradeoff is a degree of inefficiency – also the machine is then not free to work on larger components.

Doosan DNM 6700 Vertical Machining Centre

The decision to add an additional Doosan DNM6700 Vertical Machining Centre to our operation in Aintree is directly addressing this balance. Whilst this isn’t the biggest machine we have available, with a table of 1500mm x 670mm it is ideally suited to handling workpieces up to 1300KG.

In the early days of CNC machining, there were some who suggested that digital technology could never match the skill of a time-served and experienced machine operator. As technology has advanced, the capabilities of CNC machine tools are now well-proven. This brings a new consideration to machine investment decisions which are now about balancing traditional machining skills with the latest technology to deliver optimal real production efficiency.

From our customer feedback, we believe we are doing pretty well!
